The Sylvan Stool Collection was the final project for an introductory woodworking studio, where we learned to operate woodworking machinery and apply fundamental joinery techniques. This assignment emphasized proficiency with universal materials and craftsmanship, resulting in two stools made from locally sourced poplar. Using a consistent joint structure, we were tasked with experimenting with different forms and proportions to explore how they shape user experience. The Pillar is a compact, sturdy step stool optimized for cross-legged sitting, while The Perch is tailored for high-top counters and restless sitters, with an accessible leg rest and angled seat that encourage frequent repositioning.
